1. Thoughts on the overall experience:
I really enjoyed the project. The hardest part for me was figuring out my cause. I was trying to figure out what I'm passionate about, and I wanted to pick a cause I would actually look forward to. At the very end of last semester I joined a film club called wandering studios here at Temple. The only reason why I heard of the film club is because I happened to see a small flyer in my dorm lobby. After joining wandering studios I soon learned that there were many other film clubs I could have joined. I figured for my site I could get the awareness out there for these clubs, which were very hard to find. I also was hoping my site could be used as a place for people to find new amateur film makers, and see their work. The experience making the website was very good, I enjoyed building it, and watching it grow. Weebly was a good tool to learn, and I look forward to continue to learn and use it in the future. 2. Evaluation of success: I think my website has a great potential for success especially since next year wandering studios and ChomChom productions have agreed to to work with me. But for now I think the designing and content providing on my website was pretty successful, but my overall movement still needs a lot of work. I have put time into providing YouTube content to build an audience, that we we can show people, and convince them that Bad Jokes is the perfect platform to show off your work to the world. Still this proves very challenging. 3. What would you have done differently?: I would have definitely reached out to the film clubs on campus sooner. That way I may have been able to get more connections before this semester ended. I also would have made more diverse YouTube content. Because of time, scheduling, and personal taste most of our videos we made to start off Bad Jokes are short comedy videos, which we are better at producing. But I would have made more diverse videos like dramas or action videos, because I think it comes across that we are specifically comedy videos. I also wish to learn how to create a way where people can log in and have a profile on Bad Jokes. For now I just have a page where people can comment their information, but I would much rather have a way to make a profile about themselves. I have learned some computer programming from past classes and look forward in the future with my other classes on how to make this happen. 4. What is your plan for this project in the future?: Bad Jokes hopes to continue our mission in the future. We are in talks with wandering studios to have them help promote more awareness around temples campus of the film community that is thriving here. We also hope that they will encourage their followers to use Bad Jokes and promote themselves on Bad Jokes. I also explained to them that it seems like the film clubs at Temple have this kind of rivalry between them, which can be good, because it promotes competition. But I think the clubs as a whole need to start working together on getting it known that they are out there and available to students interested in film.

Homepage: The Navigation Bar is to the Left. Right now the pages are tentative. About: About Page briefly describing what Bad Jokes is. Contact: Contact page so people can contact us. This is how people can get in touch with us about amateur film featuring, and video sharing. Blog: Right now the blog is for class, but after class, the goal is to turn the blog into a way people can connect with each other, and share their information. Videos: This is where people can view the videos. Store: Tentative. The navigation bar is to the left, and is on every page.
My Homepage is simple, and sleek.
Content: The homepage has 6 key elements. The first thing that stands out is the Title. The title font catches your eye, which I will talk about later. Next is the short welcoming message right above the title which welcomes the viewer. After that is a Button that takes the viewer right to the YouTube page which would be a main reason why the viewer is there. After that is the Bad Jokes commercial which is view able. This would allow anyone to kind of get a feeling of what Bad Jokes is about. To the left is the navigation bar. Finally under the video is a short description of our mission. Color and Font: I chose the colors and Fonts on the Site specifically. I like the red neon looking font, which stands out from the Black background. The red evokes passion, and the black works well with making it look more professional. The rest of the font is a normal white font to also pop off of the background. Images: The only images On the home page is the clickable button which takes you to the YouTube page. The other image is the video thumbnail. Organization: The Homepage is very simple, everything is placed one after another. When we first started this project in the beginning of the semester, this theme jumped out at me. I liked the design right away. The black background, with red titles, and white font seemed very simple and pleasing to me. I especially like the font of the red titles because it reminds me of neon signs you might see at a movie theater. The background is a royalty free picture I found of a movie reel. It doesn't pop out, I think it is subtle and fits in well. I like the side bar because it is different and it doesn't cut across the page, like a normal bar might.
Three words: Amateur Film Community
Our logo represents Bad Jokes in many ways. The main way would be the wordmark of the logo obviously, stating I Love Bad Jokes. But the actual look of the website has many elements that represent us. The logo is made to look like a cheap neon sign, you might see at the back of a comedy club. We also incorporated a microphone. Why did we do this? We did this because Bad Jokes started focusing on Sketch comedy, and even though we are looking to attract film makers of all genres, Sketch comedy is our roots, and for now still represents us best. College Humor Funny or Die So my cause is something I am definitely passionate about, but a little out there. The two websites I explored and kind of model after are Funny or Die and College Humor. WHAT THEY DO: The produce original content and sell it! (Millions of followers on you tube, Facebook, and twitter) They produce digital shorts which are comedy based, and often satirical. THEY ALSO produce funny "lists" and picture from all across the internet, putting them in funny groups (i.e. people falling or failing).
Like these websites, some of my other MSP major friends and I are planning on creating our own website and youtube page (which these websites are largely based) and creating our own digital shorts. Like the Justin Bieber example, our "Justin Bieber" is BAD JOKES (youtube page) and hopefully BADJOKES.COM which does not exist yet. We want to get the product and message out there and hopefully grow like College humor and Funny or Die. But we also want to use our website to help other amateur video makers. It's hard getting your videos out there, and these two websites don't always promote the little guys. We want to create a place were people can share their own video's or video's they found, and give people a chance to market themselves. |
